For centuries, the Africans in Jamaica, known as the Maroons have developed various herbal tonics to improve health. This is my family’s recipe for the famous root tonic. Other names for this drink are Baba roots, Mount Teman Roots, etc
Ingredients
  • ********one bag of Keith’s Roots tonic herbs found on our shop page***** Or
  •  
  • 2 teaspoons Keith’s Dessert Spice
  • .28 oz Isinglass
  • .5 oz sarsaparilla
  • 2 oz soursop leaves
  • 1.5 oz irish moss
  • .10 oz mauby bark
  • .30 oz search mi heart
  • 2 oz all man strength or Strong back
  • 2 oz chaney root
  • 2 oz blood wiss
  • 5 inch piece of ginger sliced into strips
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 1 oz cinnamon sticks
  • 32 oz Honey
  • 32 oz Raw cane sugar
  • Large pot of water
  • splash of rum
Instructions
  1. boil all ingredients together in a large pot of water for 1.5 hours. allow to cool with herbs in pot over night. sweeten with raw cane sugar and honey.
  2. Strain, and store in glass containers. can be consumed the same day, but is better if allowed to ferment for 3- 7 days before drinking
  3. I like this drink strong, but if it is too strong for your taste, add more water.. This is a few times more strong than what they sell in the store so feel free to dilute it as you wish.
  4. Enjoy in the morning and before rigorous activity! No need for viagra after drinking this drink! ;-) some also will add dandelion root, ginsing root, and “Green”, but i cant promote the use of such in public ;-)
  5. this mix will make at least 2 gallons of finished product

Arthritis

Arthritis is actually a group of different diseases. Osteoarthritis is a gradual loss of cartilage and overgrowth of bone in the joints, especially the knees, hips, spine, and fingertips.

Arthritis is associate with hyper-uricemia  that is too much uric acid in the blood. This is found in some foods like alcohol and a leftover of the metabolism of chemicals compounds called purines.

Rheumatoid arthritis, which affects over 2 million people, is a more aggressive form of the disease. It causes painful, inflamed joints, which sometimes become damaged. Rheumatoid arthritis is one of medicine's mysteries. And is believe to be autoimmune related.

For years people have suspected that foods are an important factor in the development of rheumatoid arthritis. Many notice an improvement in their condition when they avoid dairy products, citrus fruits, tomatoes, eggplant sweet peppers, potatoes  and certain other foods.
A 1989 survey of over one thousand arthritis patients revealed that the foods most commonly believed to worsen the condition were red meat, sugar, fats, salt, caffeine, and nightshade plants (e.g., tomatoes, eggplant).

An increasing volume of research shows that certain dietary changes do in fact help. For example, polyunsaturated oils and omega-3 supplements have a mild beneficial effect, and researchers have found that vegan diets are beneficial.

What Can We Do
Take off some weight  if over weight which helps lower the concentrations of uric acids.
Try The Four-Week Anti-Arthritis Diet (adapted from Foods That Fight Pain, by Neal Barnard, M.D.)
·        For four weeks, include generous amounts of foods from the pain-safe list in your routine.
·        At the same time, scrupulously avoid the major triggers.
·        It is important to avoid these foods completely, as even a small amount can cause symptoms.
·        Foods that are not on either list can be consumed, so long as you are emphasizing the arthritis-safe foods and scrupulously avoiding the major triggers.
You may well experience benefits earlier than four weeks, but for some people it can take this long for chronically inflamed joints to cool down.

  The Major Arthritis Triggers Foods  Below Are  to be Avoided

Pain-safe foods virtually never contribute to arthritis or other painful conditions. These include
  • Brown rice
  • Bulgar
  • Cooked or dried fruits: cherries, cranberries, pears, prunes (but not citrus fruits, bananas, peaches or tomatoes)
  • Cooked green, yellow, and orange vegetables: artichokes, asparagus, broccoli, chard, collards, lettuce, spinach, string beans, summer or winter squash, sweet potatoes, tapioca, and taro (poi)
  • Water: plain water or carbonated forms, such as Perrier, are fine. Other beverages – even herbal teas – can be triggers.
Condiments: modest amounts of salt, maple syrup, and vanilla extract are usually well-tolerated
You must do a 3 days fasting

You make also use a pain ointment to ease pain

Drink Lots Of water
This will help flush the system of the uremic acid
Change diet to eat controlled portions of protein foods such as peas bean nuts .
If you return to your normal way of eating then do not  be surprise if the pain resurface. But now that you know what to do simple start over the program from the beginning.

While a lot of individuals are bitten without any allergic reaction others  get reaction which causes redness, itching, swelling and some even break  out into bumps that oozes and cause sores.
 Do you wonder why  two individuals would be sitting at a particular spot and mosquitoes would swarm one while the other person is completely at ease and is not affected at all.
There could be one or three reason why one individuals is not affected,
The person may have on an insect repellent or they could be wearing a particular perfume or have on an aromatic oil such as peppermint.oil


The other reason the blood of the individual not affected carries within it substances that mosquitoes do not like.
The skin carries a smell that they do not like from the sweat mixing with — your microbial flora, on the skin
You have a healthy immune system that can easily combat the allergens place by the mosquitoes.
. At the end of the day the trigger (mosquito bite) is not the cause of the problem, it is the immune systems inability to recognize an irritant and deal with it without overreacting.
There are some people who have strong allergic responses to the bites which may make it seem like they're being bit more often, but they're probably not

 Research helped to show that mosquitoes are attracted to humans by blends of common chemicals such as carbon dioxide, released from the skin and by exhaling, and lactic acid, which is present on the skin, especially when we exercise. But none of the known attractant chemicals explained why mosquitoes preferred some people to others.
There are some foods that are believed to discourage mosquito bites and the adverse effects
 Foods that are high in
Vitamin C,
Vitamin B1 ,
Zinc
 Garlic
Colloidal silver water
These will builds the immune and also give  blood and un appealing  smell to the pest.  It is suggested that plenty of  fresh fruits and vegetables especially grapes and green vegetables  juices be added to a well balanced diet.

However if you still find that mosquitoes  are really  attracted to  you may try using the following herbs as natural repellent.

. Lemon Balm is said to be the number one her to act as an insect repellent to mosquitoes.
Then there are  five others that you can use if it is not readily available.The oils and tincture will work too but may wear off in a short time especially  the tincture. You can also burn candles that are made  from these herbs

 1. Citronella ( lemon grass)

Sort of “the original” for bug repelling, with a powerful lemony scent. It’s used in many commercial bug repellents and candles.   it can be a skin irritant. It’s also not quite as portable as lemon balm or the others listed below.  

2. Catnip

Studies suggest that catnip may be even more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET (the ingredient used in most commercial bug repellents, which is highly toxic  It can be used similarly to lemon balm; crushed and rubbed onto the skin. A word of caution to cat owners: watch where you plant your catnip

3. Marigolds

In addition to mosquitoes, marigolds repel garden pests, too!   The flowers are edible as well, and add color and flavor to salads or can be a gorgeous garnish when you want to dress up a dish.  4. Lavender
Grow it around the house and garden to keep bugs away. It’ll grow inside too, if you keep it next to a sunny window. Has a lovely scent, pretty purple flowers and calming properties as well, so it’s a charming addition to your garden or home for several reasons!

5. Peppermint

Biting bugs don’t like the scent of peppermint, so you can crush up the leaves and rub it on your skin to ward them off. As an added bonus, peppermint also can also do double-duty as itch relief if you do get bitten!

HOW TO AVOID VTAMIN D DIFFICIENCY

In the past, we were misinformed about the source of Vitamin D. We understand that this vitamin is needed by our bones. Your baby is constipated and cries very often but for some reason you do not know what to do. Like me an old titme mother we use to make soap suppositories .It work but you can imagine the burning effect on the infants anus. is an article I saw which gives  a solution to the problem.
 
The solution was prune juice that was sweetened with Sorbitol which would be mixed with water and fed to the infant and the  article said it worked like a breeze. I do have my concerns about giving sorbitol to a baby because of its side effects
.

Reports of side effects such as abdominal pain and diarrhea with high amounts of sorbitol consumption are nothing new, says Roger Clemens, DrPH, a spokesman for the Institute of Food Technologists and professor of pharmacology and pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.


"The laxative effect is very well documented," Clemens tells WebMD. "It could be these individuals [in the case histories] were particularly sensitive." And they did consume excessive amounts, he notes. "We would not expect the average consumer to consume upwards of 20 sticks of gum a day."
"Sorbitol is not well absorbed," Clemens says. As a result, excess water enters the gastrointestinal tract and diarrhea can occur.


 Those who rely on artificially sweetened products to help manage their diabetes or to reduce overall calories, he says, should use a variety of such products and consume them in moderation. Sorbitol is found in toothpastes as well as chewing gum and sweets.
Prune as we know especially the juice is very, very good for constipation  at any age and any gender. It is useful for the purpose in persons who have difficulty going after a surgery. There fore it would be also good for babies.

My solution to this problem would be to get the seedless prunes  say  4 boil and put  in 1/12 cups water.  Boil them for 5-10 minutes. Then  blend them  in the same water. You then  extract the juice using a clean muslin cloth if the baby is very young  and feed it to the baby.  If  baby is old enough feed it will pulp and everything In this case the baby will not suffer the consequences of the discomfort of the side effects of the Sorbitol.
The less people use commercially prepare juices the more healthy they will become. It is much better for you to get your fresh fruits  and vegetables blend or extract them then place in covered containers and put in the freezer and free so that the nutrient remain live. As for diabetics I recommend that they eat the live fruit instead of using them as juice since juices spike the blood sugar/


. I suggest that diabetics take vegetable juices, drink fresh or stored frozen As for me I stay away from most sweetened juice I rather eat the fruit and drink lots of water. Nursing mothers should include lots of fresh fruits and vegetable juice in their diets  then babies will not suffer from constipation.

 As soon as food is introduce to the baby’s diet  start adding fresh fruits and vegetable Juice also, this will keep  constipation at bay
